NHL: Penguin star Sidney Crosby out indefinitely with high ankle sprain

Pittsburgh Penguins star forward Sidney Crosby is out indefinitely after injuring his ankle while crashing into the boards leg-first Friday night. The injury, a high ankle sprain, occurred midway through the first period of the Penguins 3-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Lighting.

Crosby was in visible pain as he was helped off the ice and will be re-evaluated Saturday by team doctors in Pittsburgh. Initially diagnosed with a high ankle sprain, Crosby could be out for a month or maybe even longer.

Crosby was the leading NHL All-Star vote getter and in 45 games this season has 20 goals, 43 assists for 63 total points. The injury will most likely cause Crosby to miss the All-Star game while Crosby recovers and goes through rehabilitation from his injury.
