Soccer: David Beckham is singlehandedly killing the planet

Worried about global warming? Blame soccer star David Beckham - he is not only the world’s richest soccer player but also one of the worlds biggest environmental threats (and no this has nothing to do with the Spice Girls).
According to the U.K. environmental watchdog group Carbon Trust, Beckham is personally responsible for 163 tons of carbon dioxide ever year. 163 tons seems like a lot, but compare it to the average of 9.4 tons most people produce and you wonder when Al Gore and Greenpeace will be knocking on his door. According to the group, Beckham’s “Carbon Footprint” - the impact his activities has on the planet - might be the largest in human history. Hell yeah! If you are going to do something - go big.
So how does the current Los Angeles Galaxy superstar emit so much carbon dioxide? You just need to look at his fleet of cars and global traveling. Beckham logged over 250,000 miles last year flying just for his soccer matches, 50,000 for other global obligations. And if his flying habits weren’t so bad he also owns a fleet of 15 cars that include the gas guzzling SUV’s and sports cars.
In the report released by the Carbon Trust, a spokesperson said in regards to Beckham’s gas -? “He should use his celebrity status to make people aware of the damage that traveling can cause to the planet. With all his money he should be using it at least to reduce his own footprint. He has more freedom of choice when it comes to methods of traveling. He could also choose greener cars.”
Look for Beckham to continue his ice cap melting ways in 2008.
