(video) Former NHL goalie and current coach Patrick Roy sends son to fight another goalie
We all know that Patrick Roy was a legendary goalie, maybe one of the best to ever stand between the pipes. However, did you know that he now coaches in a Quebec Junior Hockey league and his son, Jonathan Roy, is their teams starting goalie? Did you also know that they are a bunch of goons? Being a huge hockey fan, when I saw this story over at SportsbyBrooks.com I felt compelled to read - but then I saw the below video and it got me all fired up - the story goes like this (this comes from TSN.CA):
“The spirited rivalry between the QMJHL’s Quebec Remparts and Chicoutimi Sagueneens reached a new low on Saturday, and once again, a Roy was front and centre. This time, however, it wasn’t Quebec head coach Patrick Roy, but his son Jonathan who plays goal for the Remparts.” “With the Remparts trailing 7-1 near the end of the second period of their playoff game on Saturday, players on both sides began to brawl. The younger Roy skated towards Chicoutimi netminder Bobby Nadeau, but was held back by two on-ice officials.” “According to reports, it was at that point that father Patrick told his son to go after Nadeau. Jonathan Roy skated towards the opposing netminder and landed a series of punches without any retaliation, then saluted the opposing fans before starting another fight with defenceman Sebastien Rioux. ”
Great, interesting right? We all love a good Hockey fight right, especially when goalies go at it. However watch the video and you will see that the other goalie wants NOTHING to do with Roy or fighting in general. But does that stop Roy from taking him down and getting a few cheap shots in? Of course not.
What a goon. Oh and what is with the names of these teams? Quebec Remparts? Chicoutimi Sagueneens? What is a Saqueneens? yeah they are in Quebec which speaks French but still, I mean cant they use names like Polar Bears or Snow cats?

I’ve actually always disliked Roy, and this doesn’t surprise me at all. Both should be suspended, and this is the exact reason that I hope no NHL takes a chance with Patrick and hires him as a Head Coach.

The father and the kid have issues. The apple certainly did no fall very far from the tree. To continue to punch the other goalie even after he was down made it all the worse. His numbers in goal this year stink as well.

Roy’s son, Jonathan is the team’s back-up goalie. He has been suspended by the league for seven games and his father has recieved a five game suspension.
