Over 20 Florida State football players are facing disciplinary actions, including being suspended from playing in the Seminoles upcoming bowl game, because of a cheating scandal, it was announced earlier today. The players were allegedly involved in a academic cheating scandal that involved an internet-based course, Florida State officials are expected to announce the results of their investigation later this week. If suspended the players would miss the December 31st Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl where they are playing the Kentucky Wildcats as well as a couple of games next year. The ongoing investigation, which began in September, has already led to numerous resignations and penalties for players and faculty.
“Kentucky would be a tough opponent when we are at full strength, so clearly this will make things more difficult,” Coach Bobby Bowden said. “Our staff is in the process of determining what adjustments we must make for the game.” Being down 20 players, no matter who they are, is going to hurt - especially against a hungry and good Kentucky team. Florida State has been trying to get back to the top of College Football for a few years now, this has to be disheartening to Coach Bowden and might set the program back just a bit.
