Players stock are dropping (Andre Woodson) and players stock are rising (Leodis McKelvin, Chris Johnson), also NFL teams are starting to let players enter into free agency and sign players to fill needs. By no means do we know all the details but slowly the 2008 NFL Draft is getting clearer. With that being said check out our latest 2008 Mock NFL Draft (version 5) over at our NFL Draft website - myMockDrafts.com.

NFL: 49ers re-sign quarterback Shaun Hill, will compete with Alex Smith for starting job

February 8th, 2008 khawe Posted in 2008 Mock NFL Draft, NFL, NFL Draft, NFL Mock Draft, San Fransisco 49ers 1 Comment »

San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback Shaun Hill re-signed with the team yesterday. Hill, a career 3rd string backup will be competing with Alex Smith for the starting quarterback job.

Hill, who has been in the NFL for 6 seasons, stepped into the starting role for the 49ers after both Alex Smith and Trent Dilfer went down with injuries. Hill led the last place 49ers to wins over the Cincinnati Bengals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers - in those two games Hill threw for 501 yards, 5 touchdowns and only 1 interception.

Alex Smith, the former #1 overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, has not lived up to expectations and has struggled.  Over 3 seasons, Smith has thrown for 4679 yards and only 19 touchdowns - more importantly Smith has thrown 31 interceptions and has a career QB rating of horrible 63.5%

Are either Hill or Smith really the answer to the 49ers quarterback issues? Can you really see either quarterback bringing the 49ers to the Super Bowl? I don’t. Maybe the 49ers would be smart to use the 2008 NFL Draft to pick up a quarterback - the only problem is they traded their pick to the New England Patriots (currently the 7th pick overall). There are some good QB’s in this years draft but they will have to trade up to get them - no sense in drafting a questionable player late in the 1st round or in the 2nd round.  Check out the 2008 Mock NFL Draft over at myMockDrafts.com for the latest predictions.

NFL: GM says Dolphins listening to offers for the 2008 NFL Draft #1 pick

January 25th, 2008 khawe Posted in 2008 Mock NFL Draft, Miami Dolphins, NFL, NFL Draft, NFL Mock Draft 4 Comments »

In what has to be a smart move by a franchise that needs more then just one player, the Miami Dolphins are listening to offers for their #1 pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. Dolphins’ general manager Jeff Ireland said to the NFL Network that the Dolphins are “open for business” when it comes to trade talks.

The Dolphins have been one of the most active teams in the NFL since the season ended. Ireland has been with the team for only 3 weeks and during that time fired head coach Cam Cameron and most of his staff then hired Tony Sparano as new coach. Of course, the Dolphins also brought in Bill Parcells to head up football operations as Executive Vice President – Parcells is the one who hired Ireland.

Ok, the Dolphins have made plenty of front office moves, now they need to start working on their players. Going 1-15 shows that the team needs more then just one top player to right the ship. However, with the #1 pick they could address a major need in their aging defense and bring in top defensive prospect Glenn Dorsey. The other major need is at quarterback, but no player is worth taking at the top spot. The Dolphins would be smart to trade the top pick for a lower first round and second round pick – this way they can draft a solid quarterback like Brian Brohm and fill some gaps on defense.

Check out our latest 2008 Mock NFL Draft for our latest predictions.

College Football: Darren McFadden to head to the NFL

January 12th, 2008 khawe Posted in 2008 Mock NFL Draft, Arkansas Razorbacks, College Football, NFL, NFL Draft, NFL Mock Draft 1 Comment »

Arkansas tailback and two-time Heisman Trophy runner-up Darren McFadden will not be coming back to the Razorbacks for his senior season and will enter the 2008 NFL Draft. McFadden’s father, Graylon McFadden, is rumored to have sent the proper paperwork to the NFL offices this week. The official deadline for underclassman to petition for early draft entry is January 15th. I don’t think McFadden’s decision to head to the NFL was a big shock to anyone.

McFadden had a tremendous career at Arkansas, besides being a Heisman Trophy runner-up twice, McFadden rushed for 4,590 yards and 41 touchdowns. McFadden has rushed for over 1,600 the past two season - including 1,830 yards and 16 touchdowns this past College Football season.

We have McFadden as our #1 running back on the draft board and currently going to the New England Patriots with the 7th pick overall in our 2008 Mock NFL Draft.

2008 Mock NFL Draft - Version 2

January 9th, 2008 khawe Posted in 2008 Mock NFL Draft, College Football, NFL, NFL Draft, NFL Mock Draft 9 Comments »

With the New Year upon us, all College Football bowls completed and the NFL regular season over, what better time then to update our 2008 Mock NFL draft? Also, remember per my earlier post that the finalized NFL Draft order will not be known until the NFL Combine in February. You can view the 2008 Mock NFL Draft - Version 1 to see what changes have been made. Our 2008 NFL Mock NFL Draft - version 3 will come out no later then right after the NFL combine in Febuary.

2008 Mock NFL Draft - Version 2

1) Miami Dolphins - Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU
Bill Parcells will be looking to make an immediate impact in this years draft. I still think that the Dolphins will deal this pick to get more picks in the 2008 NFL Draft. However, if they stick to picking #1 then the obvious and best choice is LSU Defensive Tackle Glenn Dorsey. Dorsey is a playmaker who can come into the NFL ready to start and help out.

2) St. Louis Rams - Jake Long, OT, Michigan
The Rams need help on the offensive line and the best at that position is Michigan’s Jake Long. However, the Rams might be better suited to trade down since there are other quality OL available - like the Dolphins the Rams have plenty of holes to fill in the 2008 NFL Draft.

3) Atlanta Falcons - Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College
I think it is obvious that the Falcons need a quarterback, it was close for me between Ryan and Brohm, but Ryan makes a better fit for the Falcons at this time. The Falcons could draft stud RB Darren McFadden but with no solid QB prospects after the 1st round it is now or never for the Falcons in the 2008 NFL Draft.

4) Oakland Raiders - Chris Long, DE, Virginia
With Warren Sapp retiring the Raiders now need to focus even more on their defense. Long is the most ready, outside Dorsey, player in the NFL Draft to make an immediate impact.

5) Kansas City Chiefs - Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville
The Chiefs could go into any direction at this spot, there are some really good offensive tackles and defensive backs that could help them out, but in the end by gut says they will draft the best QB available.

6) New York Jets - Sam Baker, OT, USC
The Jets have the opportunity to build a all-pro offensive line for the next 10 years in this draft. Sam Baker showed in the Rose Bowl he is a top OT and deserves to be drafted this high in the NFL Draft - Baker would be a great complement to the Jets young OT’s.

7) New England Patriots (via SF) - Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
If Darren McFadden is still here the Patriots will happily pick him up. The best just got better…how sad is that.

8 ) Baltimore Ravens - Andre Woodson, QB, Kentucky
No change here from my last 2008 NFL Mock Draft - the Ravens need a QB and will go with the best available.

9) Cincinnati Bengals - Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC
I had the Bengals going with James Laurinaitis with this pick but since his stock might have token slight hit after the BCS Title game I am going with Ellis who I ranked just as high.

10) New Orleans Saints - James Laurinaitis, ILB, Ohio State
Bottom line is Laurinaitis is a playmaker, an athlete and the a NFL ready feel for the game.

11) Buffalo Bills - Calais Campbell, DE, Miami
The Bills are a team that might be shopping for a starting QB, but unless they make a move or someone drops they wont get one in the 2008 NFL Draft. My gut says they will go WR but common sense says defense.

12) Denver Broncos - Keith Rivers, LB, USC
The Broncos need help on defense, especially stopping the run. Rivers is the best available who can help on all fronts and start plugging holes right away.

13) Carolina Panthers - Jeff Otah, OT, Pittsburgh
The Panthers would be stupid to pass on Otah, their offensive line could seriously use an upgrade.

14) Chicago Bears - Ryan Clady, OT, Boise State
Another team that could use a quarterback, possible trade with one of the higher teams? If not they will try and build up their offensive line to help whatever QB is back there.

15) Detroit Lions - Gosder Cherilus, OT, Boston College
Since there is no top WR to take the Lions will keep the OT strike going.

16) Arizona Cardinals - Reggie Smith, DB, Oklahoma
The Cardinals needs some help defending the pass, this was a toss up between Smith and Mike Jenkins of South Florida.

17) Minnesota Vikings - Ali Highsmith, LB, LSU
The Vikings could go in many directions with this pick but my guess will be defense. Highsmith is more of a project but will pay off huge dividends after a year or two.

18) Houston Texans - Malcolm Jenkins, DB, Ohio State
Jenkins is a steal at the 18th pick and will help the Texans right away.

19) Philadelphia Eagles - DeSean Jackson, WR, Cal
It might make more sense to draft a OT here but McNabb has publicly said the Eagles need weapons and Jackson is exactly that.

20) Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Aqib Talib, DB, Kansas
I could go many ways with this pick but the best bet will be help on the corners.

21) Washington Redskins - Kenny Phillips, S, Miami
Sadly this is an obvious need for the Redskins

22) Dallas Cowboys (via Cle) - Early Doucet, WR, LSU
Some of those wide receivers are getting old…and slow. Early will give the Cowboys a huge burst of speed and draw attention away from Owens.

23) Seattle Seahawks - Jonathan Stewart, RB, Oregon
I think this season showed that Shaun Alexander is not going to last and the Seahawks need immediate help. Stewart will be the steal of the 2008 NFL Draft.

24) Pittsburgh Steelers - Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi
The Steelers might be picking higher but they will go with the same need and the same man. The Steelers most pressing need is offensive tackle.

25) Tennessee Titans - Limas Sweed, WR, Texas
McNabb said he needed weapons…well Vince Young needs them as well. The only concern is the wrist injury that kept him out most of this season.

26) New York Giants - Mike Jenkins, DB, South Florida

27) San Diego Chargers - Vernon Gholston, DE/OLB, Ohio State

28) Jacksonville Jaguars - Derrick Harvey, DE, Florida

29) Green Bay Packers - Tracy Porter, CB, Indiana

30) San Francisco (via Ind) - Malcom Kelly, WR, Oklahoma

31) Dallas Cowboys - Quentin Groves, DE, Auburn

2008 Mock NFL Draft - Version 1.0

January 7th, 2008 khawe Posted in 2008 Mock NFL Draft, College Football, NFL, NFL Draft, NFL Mock Draft 5 Comments »

UPDATE: 2008 Mock NFL Draft - Version 2.0 has been posted!

So here is my first mock NFL draft for 2008. Obviously, things will change as the draft order shifts and certain players go up or down in my rankings. I plan on updating these rankings a couple more tims before the actual draft - then do live draft updates at the draft here in NYC.

1) Miami Dolphins - Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU
Where to start? With a team that looks to break the wrong kind of record you need much more help then what one person can provide. The Dolphins have a need on both sides of the line as well as at QB. My suggestion and predication will be that the Dolphins trade down in order to get more - but if they stay with picking first they will go with the best Defensive player available.

2) New England Patriots (via SF) - Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
On the flip side to the Dolphins, what does a team like the Patriots need? I wouldn’t be surprised to see them trade this pick for future considerations. However, if they do stay at #2 they have some good choices. My top 2 picks for the Patriots would be either McFadden or OT Jake Long. McFadden would split carries with Maroney - giving them a nice two-back option.

3) New York Jets - Chris Long, DE, Virginia
The Jets would be wise to go with Jake Long but I don’t think that would go over well with the Jet faithful. That being said, the Jets have an opportunity to make a decent splash with a young, explosive playmaker with either Chris Long or James Laurinaitis - both players would fit well into Mangini’s defensive mindset. My choice in a coin toss is Howie’s son.

4) Atlanta Falcons - Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville
I don’t think I need to go into this one to much. Brohm is the top QB in the draft and Atlanta needs one for some strange reason.

5) St. Louis rams - Jake Long, OT, Michigan
Orlando Pace is getting old and the entire offensive line has been sketchy all season. The Rams are praying no one takes Long before they have a chance.

6) Cincinnati Bengal’s - James Laurinaitis, ILB, Ohio State
This is another toss up for me - the Bengal’s will go Defensive but could go with either Laurinaitis or Sedrick Ellis. I am going with the former based on raw talent and work ethic (which the Bengal’s need more of).

7) Oakland Raiders - Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC
Sedrick Ellis will have a immediate impact with the Raiders and will drastically improve an aging and overmatched defensive line. I am a hunch that the Raiders might be one of the teams looking to move up, possibly for a shot at Dorsey.

8 ) Kansas City Chiefs - Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College
With no WR worth drafting at this spot the Cheifs can go QB or OT. I pick QB since that is one of their biggest question marks. I also see the Chiefs making a move to either draft higher or lower - to many needs, to little picks.

9) Baltimore Ravens - Andre Woodson, QB, Kentucky
McNair is just not what he used to be, the Ravens would prefer Matt Ryan but will take Woodson as he is the next best QB available.

10) New Orleans Saints - Calais Campbell, DE, Miami
Campbell has pure raw talent, he could benefit from staying another year but if he comes out some team with major D needs will take a risk on him…so why not the saints?

11) Houston Texans - Malcolm Jenkins, DB, Ohio State
Jenkins will need to work on his footwork and coverage but he is a burner who loves to make picks. Taking Jenkins will give the Texans a impressive secondary worthy of a fantasy football pick for starting D.

12) Denver Broncos - Ryan Clady, OT, Boise State
Clady is going to be a top OT in for many years, he has great strength, good footwork and is just plain massive. The Broncos will take this pick and upgrade the O-line in hopes of bringing back that feared running attack of years past.

13) Carolina Panthers - Keith Rivers, LB, USC
Rivers brings leadership, energy, instinct and quickness - but I question his overall talent at the next level. I lean towards the Panthers taking a flyer on him but if Carolina passes on Rivers I would expect them to go with Miami safety Kenny Phillips.

14) Chicago Bears - Sam Baker, OT, USC
The biggest question mark for the Bears is at QB, but there isn’t one worth picking up at this spot. If the Bears want a QB they will have to trade up and go after Ryan, Brohm or Woodson. With that being said, without a QB to draft the bears will go O-line. Some people question if Baker is ready for the NFL, I think so.

15) Philadelphia Eagles - Kenny Phillips, S, Miami
The Eagles need a WR but I think DeSean Jackson doesn’t fit in Philly so I am going with the best safety which is a big need for the Eagles.

16) Washington Redskins - DeSean Jackson, WR, Cal
The Redskins will be glad to take the top WR in the draft at #15. Jackson is a dynamic player that can play various roles. He will add some much needed speed (if he can remain healthy) and playmaking from day one.

17) Arizona Cardinals - Gosder Cherilus, OT, Boston College
Arizona is a team that has some good talent but just needs to fill a couple holes. Drafting a OT will be one of them - so the question becomes which one is available.

18) Buffalo Bills - Reggie Smith, DB, Oklahoma
Reggie Smith is a player in the mold of Jenkins who can make a big play at any time - exactly what the Bills need.

19) Minnesota Vikings - Ali Highsmith, LB, LSU
With the Vikings biggest need being QB and no one worth taking this high it makes sense for them to go with a proven defensive talent. Highsmith, once he bulks up a bit, will be a big time player after a season or two.

20) Detroit Lions - Jeff Otah, OT, Pittsburgh
This is shaping to be the year of the o-lineman. Detroit is yet another team that needs a big upgrade at OT and you cant spell Otah without OT (sorry).

21) Dallas Cowboys (via Cle) - Malcom Kelly, WR, Oklahoma
A OT would be a great pick here for the ‘Boys but I cant do it. Second choice would be WR, Kelly is almost a T.O clone and can learn a lot from him.

22) Tennessee Titans - Limas Sweed, WR, Texas
Vince Young needs a WR. No check that, Vince Young needs WR’s (plural!).

23) San Diego Chargers - Derrick Harvey, DE, Florida
Luck has Harvey falling this far to San Diego. Harvey could stand to get another years experience under his belt but with some time in the weight room and condition guidance he could be really good.

24) Seattle Seahawks - Jonathan Stewart, RB, Oregon
Too many questions at running back in Seattle, answer some of them by drafting Stewart.

25) Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Aqib Talib, DB, Kansas
Size? Check. Toughness? Check. Ball skills? Check. Big play making ability? Check.

26) New York Giants - Mike Jenkins, DB, South Florida
Jenkins is a perfect example of what an extra year can do for you. He will come into eh league as starter and be a top DB for years to come.

27) Jacksonville Jaguars - Dan Connor, LB, Penn State
Connor is one of those players that people question whether or not he is ready for the NFL. At 27 it is worth taking a guy with all the fundamentals and will leave it all on the field every Sunday.

28) Pittsburgh Steelers - Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi
Not another o-lineman! Ugh. Well that is the biggest need for the Steelers. If Oher comes out this is a no-brainer for the boys in steel-town.

29) Green Bay Packers - Steve Slaton, RB, West Virginia
Another team with a lot of questions t running back. If Ryan Grant is for real then the Packers can use Slaton as a return man or change of pace back.

30) San Francisco (via Ind) - Early Doucet, WR, LSU
How pissed at the 49′ers? Come on do the Patriots really need the #2 pick? Well they got it and San Fran is at #30…for now at least. At the 30th pick take a risk on someone like Doucet who could be the next Stever Smith.

31) Dallas Cowboys - Vernon Gholston, DE/OLB, Ohio State
Not sure if Gholston fits the biggest needs for the Cowboys but he is a great pick at #31.

Version 2.0 of my 2008 Mock NFL Draft will go live the first week of January after all of the bowl games have been played.

2008 NFL Draft order “finalized”

January 2nd, 2008 khawe Posted in 2008 Mock NFL Draft, NFL, NFL Draft, NFL Mock Draft, NFL Playoffs, NFL Super Bowl 3 Comments »

The NFL posted the 2008 NFL Draft order on Monday, the 2008 NFL Draft will take place in NYC on April 26-27. The draft order (which I listed below) is subject to change as there still needs to be some sorting out as Atlanta, Kansas City and Oakland all finished with the same record and the same strength-of-schedule. Since the Oakland Raiders finished 4th in the AFC West and the Kansas City Chiefs finished 3rd, the Raiders will automatically draft ahead of the Chiefs. Atlanta and Oakland will flip a coin at the NFL combine in February to determine who will draft 3rd. If Atlanta wins, the Falcons will draft 3rd, followed by the Raiders and then the Chiefs. If the Raiders win the coin toss, they will draft 3rd and the Falcons and Chiefs will flip a coin to see who drafts 4th and 5th. And don’t forget that the order at the end of the 1st round could change based on the results of the NFL playoffs.

Got all of that?

So here is, at it stands today, the official 2008 NFL Draft order. Be sure to check out our 2008 Mock NFL Draft - Version 1 and keep an eye out for version 2 that will be released after the final College Football bowl game.
